Wellbeing Award for Schools
Wellbeing Award for Schools
What is the Wellbeing Award for Schools?
At HPRS we are passionate about wellbeing and are proud to be working towards the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS). The aim of the award is to improve resilience, emotional intelligence, mental health and wellbeing for all members of our school community.
The award recognises and builds on what HPRS is already doing well, identifies areas for growth, and creates a strategic action plan for continuous improvement. The award covers eight key competency areas, including organisational structure and culture, support for staff and pupils and working with parents and carers.
What are the benefits of the award?
- Creates a culture of an awareness of mental health, tolerance and acceptance. Helping to reduce behavioural problems and promotes positive mental health strategies.
- Improves community wellbeing for all.
- An opportunity for the school to identify its own priorities and areas for development using the framework.
- Addresses the needs of all mental health needs of your community including pupils and staff.
- Increases staff retention rates meaning continuity of care and helps attract high calibre staff.
- Demonstrates a commitment to adhere to and exceed professional and government guidance.
- Allows specific professional development opportunities for all levels of staff whether house based or as part of a whole school team.
What does the award involve?
The WAS award is a whole-community project that requires that we all work together to achieve the award. A wellbeing working party is working hard across our sites to coordinate and implement the requirements of the award.
This involves creating a portfolio of evidence set against the competencies of the framework, evidencing policies and initiatives that work towards improving mental health and wellbeing. This includes surveys to gain feedback from pupils, staff and parents and carers. It also includes students voice initiatives across each of our sites.
HPRS will work with an allocated coach to create a personalised action plan for our school. This process will take around a year after which we hope to obtain the reward.
